Is there a difference between a wedding planner and a venue coordinator? The answer is a resounding YES and this is an easy mistake to assume that it is one and the same role. If you have seen the movie with JLO as the “Wedding Planner” then you will notice that she was with the couple on every aspect of their wedding planning journey. In this week's blog post, I will share some key differences between a wedding planner and a venue coordinator.

Wedding Planner

A wedding planner works and is for you the COUPLE, they are dedicated to creating your vision to reality. A wedding planner will normally offer a range of services such as Full Wedding Planning, Partial Planning and On the Day Coordination. These services are as individual as they are, they are all for the COUPLE.

A wedding planner will guide the couple in planning their wedding by looking after every intricate detail of the wedding. A wedding planner will also schedule and attend appointments with the couple, and also assist reviewing and negotiating prices and contracts.

As a luxury wedding planner, they will also assist create the event design, provide logistic support such as wedding invite RSVP management, transportation and booking guest accommodation.

One of the main services a luxury wedding planner will also provide is managing the timeline on the wedding day and also coordinating the day alongside the venue coordinator.

Venue Coordinator

A venue coordinator works on behalf of the venue for your wedding. The venue coordinator will be the main contact when you visit the venue and show you around the venue. The venue coordinator will also manage the booking and planning process from the venue’s perspective. They will primarily be on hand for any questions venue specific and offer guidance on behalf of the venue.

As a venue coordinator they will also be on hand to assist the wedding planner on the day on anything venue specific. If the venue is providing any catering services, the venue coordinator will be on hand to offer support in setting up and ensuring their services are delivered as per the agreement.

As a Hampshire Wedding Planner I always advise my couples to ask the venue what their venue coordinator will and will not do for their wedding. It is always important to understand the support that they will receive from the venue.
